City of Phoenix Composting Program 

This Phoenix program provides a large, tan container for $5 a month, for your yard waste, like grass clippings, branches, and shrubs. This program is perfect for households that have weekly landscaping maintenance! Collected compostable materials are brought to the city-owned 27th Avenue Compost Facility. The city of Phoenix offers a weekly recycling collection, that picks up the same day as your landfill container collection, but different trucks are used to avoid contamination. Collected recyclables are brought to the city-owned Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), sorted and processed for repurposing.

Phoenix residents and businesses are encouraged to use the Eco-stations to place their recyclables at any time. Eco-stations are huge roll-off bins, strategically placed in city-owned parks and near clusters of multi-family housing complexes. Click the link above to find an ecostation near you.

Maricopa County Master Gardener & Home Horticulture Program 

The Maricopa County Cooperative Extension offers two educational programs, the Master Gardener and Home Horticulture program. Both offer the same course material, except the Master Gardener program has a volunteering component, to help continue educating the public. Our friends at American Forests have helped create the Tree Equity Score Analyzer. It's a platform designed to help you find out where to plant trees based on filters like pollution rates, lack of shade, and local demographics to help you determine which area would be best to plant! Although available nationwide, there is a local Maricopa County Analyzer!

If you or a neighborhood group wants to plant trees, check out this analyzer to ensure you create the biggest difference in your community!

The City of Phoenix has a collection program where you can schedule a day and time for your hazardous items to be collected right outside your home. Hazardous items include paint, oil, batteries, light bulbs and more. The link above will have guidelines and more information to get started!
